Our Quality Policy

It provides a summary of the information included in the Departments full QMS documentation which has been prepared to help improve service to our 'customers'.

BS EN ISO 9001 ^ Top

ISO 9001:2000 is the international quality standard for organisations which:

  • Wish to demonstrate their ability to consistently provide a service that meets the requirements of their customers, stakeholders and applicable regulation, and
  • Aim to improve their performance through the application of the system. This includes processes for continual improvement of the system and the assurance of conformity and applicable regulatory requirements

Certification, Registration and Accreditation ^ Top

The department is registered with the British Standards Institution (BSi) and certified by them to the BS EN ISO 9001:2000 Quality management Standard. BSi are accredited to provide registration and certification by United Kingdom Accreditation Services (UKAS), the only UK body recognised by Government to do this.

    The Scope ^ Top

When Registering an ISO9001:2000 QMS it is necessary to define the scope of the activities it applies to. In our case the QMS covers the following activities, which form the scope of registration:

    • Management of assets including vehicles, equipment, hydrants and property
    • Procurement and supplier management
    • Design and modification of equipment and services

The system includes the following activities covered by the registration but not specifically stated in the scope:

    • Service and repair of appliances, vehicles and associated equipment
    • Product evaluation and research
    • Internal management systems including identification of services, document control, performance monitoring and management, and training

The system also includes the following activities which are not covered by the registration:

    • Minimisation of the Services environmental impact – this cannot be formally registered to ISO9001:2000 because it is the subject of the separate ISO14001:2004 standard

Purpose within SFRS Technical Services ^ Top

The QMS enables us define, monitor and improve our support to the Services front line operations and contribute towards the vision of “A Safer Shropshire”.

In particular the QMS assists us in:

    • Identifying and understanding our internal customer's requirements with a view to supporting their activities and achieving customer satisfaction
    • Better monitoring of our performance
    • A structured approach to improving our performance through improved quality or better use of time and resources
    • Consolidation of improvements and initiatives
    • Greater understanding of the groups processes
    • Documentation of existing processes
    • Demonstrating systematic compliance with standards
    • Improved internal and external communications
    • Understanding how statutory and regulatory requirements impact on the group and our customers
    • Greater consistency and traceability of products and services

Our Quality Management System ^ Top

Our QMS has been developed based mainly on long standing procedures within the department. In some cases these have been slightly revised, formalised or documented, and they have been supported by a limited number of new procedures.

The system is documented in Quality Documents, which are dynamic documents. All members of staff must be familiar with the Quality Policy and the detailed procedures and practices which are applicable to their area of work within the Department.

    Our Quality Policy ^ Top

    It is our policy to:

  • Provide the Service with high quality support which meets the needs of the Service and meets relevant local standards, national standards, legislation or regulations
  • Ensure that all services are executed in a manner, which sets and maintains a level of quality and service consistent with the requirements and expectations of our customers
  • Strive to continually improve our services and processes to enhance customer satisfaction

It is our corporate objective to:

Provide the highest possible level of service to our customers
