Sexual orientation
Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service ensures that we follow all legislation; the Employment Equality (Sexual Orientation) Regulations 2003 plus its amendments.
This legislation covers:
Employment and vocational training |
Bans harassment and victimisation |
Bans direct and indirect discrimination |
Covers perception of sexual orientation |
This legislation is for people who are lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and heterosexuals.
In order to make sure that we are abiding by this we carry out Equality Impact Assessments, sexual orientation is one of the criteria that we consider during this process, which make sure that no person is receiving any less favourable treatment or discriminated against because of their sexual orientation.
The Civil Partnership Act 2005 came into force 5 December 2005 and has given same sex couples legal recognition of their relationship and means that civil partnerships are treated the same as married couples.
