13 September 2012 Suspected arson in Brindleyford, Brookside

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to a report of a touring caravan on fire at 10.48pm, Tuesday 11th September 2012, in a parking area at Brindleyford, Brookside, Telford.

Two appliances from Tweedale and Telford Central and a Fire Investigator attended the scene.

The fire is being treated as arson and anyone with information is asked to contact West Mercia Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

11 September 2012 Fires fall after Telford estate walkabouts

A scheme by fire and police to introduce joint “walkabouts” on Telford housing estates has seen a dramatic fall in incidents of deliberate fires.

Risk Reduction Officers from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service joined Community Support Officers from Telford Police to tour housing estates where crime and vandalism had been reported.

Kate Hancocks and Shane Gazey are employed by the brigade to reduce fires, reassure the public after a fire, and get out fire safety messages to prevent fires in the home and deliberate arson incidents.

07 September 2012 Fire Fighters Charity motorcycle ride out

On Sunday 2nd September Bridgnorth Fire Station and staff hosted the first Fire Fighters Charity motorcycle ride out to be organised in this region.

Around 60 motorcycles and riders from all over Shropshire and West Midlands gathered at the Station to register and enjoy some light refreshments provided by a local supplier in Bridgnorth, before setting out on the ride.

06 September 2012 Oswestry Arsonist sentenced to a minimum of three and half years in prison

An Oswestry Man has who admitted Three Arson Offences in Oswestry has been deemed a ‘serious risk to the public’ and will serve a minimum three-and-a-half years.

As well as admitting starting a number of fires in Oswestry he pleaded guilty to making a series of bomb hoaxes across the UK.

Paul William Jones admitted setting fire to a derelict house bequeathed to Severn Hospice, a heritage railway signal box and pushed burning paper through a letter box of Zion fitness club, between February 27th and 5th March 2012.

05 September 2012 Arsonist jailed for 3 years

A mother who set fire to the house where her children lived with her ex-husband while in a drunken rage has been jailed for three years, at Shrewsbury Crown Court last month.

The 43yr old from Wellington, lit paper with white spirit from a nearby garden shed before stuffing it through the letterbox of the house in Trench where her ex-husband and two children lived.

She started the fire on April 20 in an attempt to damage her ex’s motorbike leather jacket.

A fire report said the blaze could have resulted in a fatality. The door was destroyed by fire and £3,000 of damage was caused.

04 September 2012 Police investigate outbuilding arson attack in Oswestry

A brick outbuilding was damaged in an arson attack in Oswestry. Police are seeking witnesses to the fire in Swan Lane at around 12.30am on Tuesday 4th September 2012.

An old sofa inside the premises was set alight causing damage to the door and a length of guttering above.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service attended and police are investigating the incident.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: "We believe the fire was deliberately started and are appealing for any information which might help identify those responsible.

22 August 2012 Fire safety for Shrewsbury Carers

Fire safety in the home was the subject under discussion at a presentation given by Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service to carers in Shrewsbury.

Delyth Humphreys from the Brigade’s Community Fire Safety department, gave a 40 minute talk to members of the Radbrook Carers’ Group.

Carers learned about the main causes of fire, where to fit smoke alarms and how to maintain them, and what to do in the event of a fire. All homes should have an escape plan and carry out a fire drill, she said.

15 August 2012 Shropshire revving up for the Fire Fighters Charity

Shropshire is revving up and getting ready for the very first Charity Motorcycle Run on Sunday, September 2, when bikers from all over the country will leave Bridgnorth for Birmingham.

The ride starts at Bridgnorth Fire Station with registration from 10am and bikers leaving at 11am. The ride takes bikers through the beautiful South Shropshire countryside and onto the Clee Hill, and onto Bromsgrove taking the biker friendly routes around the south of Birmingham to finally arrive at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham.

14 August 2012 Sprinkler system saves building

Shortly after 6pm last night fire crews attended a fire at the household waste recycling centre in Mile End Industrial Estate Oswestry.

The fire involved a large quantity of household rubbish inside the building andwas being supressed by a sprinkler system when fire crews arrived. The premises were severely smoke logged.

It took fire fighters working with staff from the occupiers ‘Veolia’ three hours to extinguish the fire.

Station Manager John Griffiths praised the company for installing a sprinkler system.

10 August 2012 Police investigate suspected arson in Wellington

Police in Telford are investigating after a car fire in Wellington.

The incident occurred near Saville Close in the early hours of Friday 10 August.

At 2.15am a member of the public called the police to report that a car was on fire in a car park just off the street. Police officers and the Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service immediately attended the scene and the fire was extinguished successfully without it spreading to any other vehicles.
