Police Hoping to "Arrest" Firefighters!

Firefighters (red strip) take on Police (blue strip) on Sunday, August 13 in a charity football match at the Unison Club in Shrewsbury.

Firefighters and crime-fighters will line up against each other this Sunday (Aug 13) in a charity football match and the public are invited to go along to watch the “blues and twos tussle.”

The match kicks off at 2pm and is the centrepiece of a fun day being staged at the Unison Club’s sports ground to help raise money for the Severn Hospice in Telford.

Shrewsbury firefighter, Andy Davies, who has organised the event along with police officer, Marvin Choudhury, is hoping a sizeable crowd turns up to watch the match and enjoy the rest of the fun day.

“The football match between teams from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service and West Mercia Police is played every year but this year we decided to turn it into an emergency services fun day and a fund-raiser for the Severn Hospice,” Andy said.

The firefighters are being tipped to win for the fourth year in a row but Andy isn’t quite so sure. “We have won the last three years running but I’m sure the police will be keen to arrest that trend,” he said.
