Suspicious fire in Telford

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service attended a property fire in Shawfield Close, Sutton Hill, Telford at 6.49pm Tuesday 30th October 2012. Crews from Tweedale, Telford, Wellington and an Aerial Ladder Platform attended the scene which involved the 1st floor of a 3 storey property. The property was empty at the time and the fire is being treated as suspicious.

The risk of arson can be reduced by following a few simple steps:-

  • Secure all property using good quality locks on doors windows sheds and garages, if a property is going to empty for some time then it should be secured using metal shuttering
  • Consider external lighting i.e. PIR lights
  • Put out rubbish for collection as late as possible and not overnight, bins should be at least 6m from properties
  • Store flammable materials in an appropriate container and lock away securely
  • Be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the Police on 101 or in an emergency 999.
