Women's Institute partnership working

Guy Williams from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service thanks Neen Savage Women’s Institute for their partnership working.

In April 2013 SFRS approached Shropshire WI to establish a partnership which could utilise the excellent links the WI has especially in rural communities.

Very quickly Neen Savage WI became the fore runners for this new partnership and with some basic training and appropriate supplies the ladies were soon out and about in the local community establishing who had or didn’t have working smoke alarms.

The work to date has so far visited over 40 properties in the Neen Savage area. The WI have referred several vulnerable persons requiring further support from SFRS, this work is vital to reducing the risk of fire especially in the more remote areas of the County.

Guy Williams said “Angela Flowers and all the WI from Neen Savage WI have been hugely supportive and they have helped to shape the way this partnership works”

Guy Williams also stated that the partnership had so far been taken up by over 20 WI groups across the county and was expecting the project to progress further throughout 2014.

Any Women’s Institute members wishing to know more about the many varied ways they can participate please contact Guy Williams at Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service on 01743 260 299.
