Keep your business in business (KYBIB)

Shropshire Fire and Rescue has launched a new regional initiative called "Keep Your Business In Business" (KYBIB).

Keep Your Business In Business is a valuable guide to give businesses information on how to comply with new fire safety laws, which came into force in October 2006, and how to protect their business from arson and other crimes. Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service have collaborated with the West Midlands Arson Task Force to produce this useful guide.

The latest version of Keep Your Business In Business contains a guide to businesses to carry out their mandatory 'fire risk self assessment' in order to comply with the Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations 1997 and has been updated to contain The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 which will be introduced in October 2006 and will be further revised subject to any changes in legislation.

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 not only applies to businesses i.e. workplaces, but it also applies to any premises which includes any place and in particular any workplace, any vehicle, vessel, aircraft or hovercraft, any installation on land or sea and any tent or movable structure.

Therefore, if you are running an event - maybe a pop concert or a wedding reception - then the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 may apply and if it does you will be required to carry out your fire risk assessment.

The KYBIB documents can be downloaded free of charge by visiting the West Midlands Arson Task Force website:
