Shropshire Fire and Rescue has launched a new regional initiative called "Keep Your School In Business" (KYSIB). |
|
The KYSIB guide is a sister publication to "Keep Your Business in Business" (KYBIB) which has proved popular within the business community
|
KYSIB is a valuable guide to give head teachers /governors information on how to comply with new fire safety laws, which came into force in October 2006, and how to protect their schools from arson and other crimes. Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service have collaborated with the West Midlands Arson Task Force to produce this useful guide.
The KYSIB guide covers legislation and all aspects of security including burglary, damage and arson. It also covers aspects of disaster recovery, in cases of serious damage. In the next few weeks the document will be delivered to schools in Shropshire.
Schools are amongst the most vulnerable premises to arson attack. About half of the deliberate school fires occur during school hours and it is essential that all staff are aware of their responsibilities. School fires can be devastating not only to students and teachers but also to the community. Fire destroys coursework, disrupts education, is very costly and can take years for the local community to recover. This initiative will help reduce the risks.
The KYSIB documents can be downloaded free of charge by visiting the West Midlands Arson Task Force website:
