Meet the team
Bar chart showing the number of employees who also act as Advisors on the Junior Fire Education Scheme
The Junior Fire Education Team consists of 22 employees of Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service who have a diverse range of skills which they use to advise and educate children and young people of the dangers of fire and the consequences of their actions.
The employees are split into three areas within the Service:
- 13 Operational - wholetime firefighters
- 6 Retained - retained duty firefighters
- 3 Non-uniformed - these members of staff are either based within our Community Fire Safety department or support services
Advisors do not take part in counselling or chastising children. On the first visit the advisors will give one-to-one fire safety education to the child. A folder containing twelve activities is left with the parents who will allocate it to the child on a weekly basis and give support with its completion. In addition on the first visit the brigade will offer a home safety survey.
