The 'Preparing for Emergencies - What You Need To Know' booklet will ensure that people across the UK have practical, common sense information at their fingertips in the event of an emergency. This is not because of any specific threat but a responsible exercise in ensuring the public is informed in a sensible, practical and helpful way.
The booklet promotes clearer understanding, bringing together advice that the Government has already issued in to one practical guide for a better informed public who can help play their part in preventing emergencies and help to deal with them.
Public safety is a number one concern for the Government and this is the latest phase in the Government's campaign to ensure that the public is informed about emergencies.
This covers a wide range of emergencies, including fires and acts of terrorism.
It is supported by research which showed the public wanted more information and that this was the information they required.
It draws on current best practice advice from experts and practitioners who have been working closely with us to develop the booklet's content.
It is supported by emergency planning partners, such as security services, emergency planning services and front line services such as The Fire and Rescue Service, police and health experts.
