Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service appointed Ashley Brown as Road Safety Advocate in June 2007. Ashley joined Shropshire Fire and Rescue in 2000 as an operational Retained Firefighter stationed at Bridgnorth. He follows in his family footsteps and is third generation to join Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service, a tradition first started by his late Grandfather who joined Shropshire Fire Brigade in 1947.
Before being appointed as the New Road Safety Advocate, Ashley worked for a large manufacturing company in Bridgnorth.
Having only just left the 'most at risk' age range of 16-25 he feels he can relate to the younger drivers around the county. As well as the families, as he is father to Cameron aged two.
Over the past seven years he has seen the results of many Road Traffic Collisions across the area of Bridgnorth. He feels very strongly about reducing the amount of people killed and seriously injured on all of Shropshire’s roads and hopes to build on the excellent work already in progress, along side the partners of Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service.
If you are an external agency wishing to work with Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service regarding road safety and awareness or would like to book a Road Safety Education Day at your school or college, please contact Ashley on 01743 260 260.
Remember speed kills and always wear your seatbelt!!
We are putting together a media plan to highlight the problems in Shropshire relating to different aspects of road safety.
We would like to hear from anyone who has a story that they would like to share with the county to do with road safety and awareness.
For example, you may be a mother living in a rural village with small children. You are concerned that a number of young people drive through the village whilst on their mobile phones. It worries you that these young drivers are not concentrating and are putting your family’s lives at risk. Is there anything that can be done to stop them?
Areas of interest include:
- Child car restraints
- Cycle safety
- Drink driving
- Driving for work (cars or LGVs)
- Drug driving
- Horse Safety on the roads
- Mobile phones
- Motorcycle safety
- School aged children
- Teenagers
- Towing safety (caravans or trailers)
- Vehicle readiness
Your story will hopefully provide a strong message to each person that reads and relates to it and hopefully make them aware that it could be, or have been, them.
For each of the above topics Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service will be displaying posters along with a written account of the story in all 23 fire stations around Shropshire. We also aim to get the stories and pictures in each of the local medias.
If you would like to tell us your story then please contact:

We will not include your full name on any of the literature unless you give us your permission. Please discuss this with Ashley.

As part of National Road Safety Week (5 – 11 November) Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service will be attending various locations around Shropshire with the Community Outreach Vehicle to promote road safety in both the rural and urban areas.
Dates and venues can be found on our Campaigns page.
Being involved or witnessing a road traffic collision can be an extremely difficult thing to come to terms with especially if it involves injury to people or animals.
