What is a Gender Equality Scheme?

As an organisation we are required to follow specific parts of this legislation, one of these is to produce a GES.

The GES is a strategic document and includes an action plan which details how the service is going to approach its duties under the legislative requirements. It sets timescales for achieving the objectives that are set out in the action plan. This scheme will encourage and push forward real outcomes to improve gender equality; it will give practical improvements to the organisation which will ensure we are meeting our duties in this legislation.

The aim of this Scheme is to promote equality of opportunity and to eliminate discrimination and harassment, both as a service provider and as an employer.

The scheme must be published by the 30 April 2007. It requires that both men and women are involved in the development of the Action Plan so that they can contribute and make a real difference to how the organisation approaches this new duty. This will include both employees and service users.
