Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service have been accredited with the Two Ticks Symbol in recognition of our commitment to good practice in employing disabled people. In order to be awarded this symbol the Service has had to demonstrate that it has met all of the five commitments which are detailed below.
What is the Disability Symbol?
| It is given by the jobcentre as recognition to employers who have agreed to meet the five commitments regarding the recruitment, employment, retention and career development of disabled people. |

How is the Symbol relevant to me?
This shows that as an employer we are committed to the five disability commitments, which are;

To interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for a job vacancy and consider them on their abilities |

To ensure there is a mechanism in place to discuss, at any time, but at least once a year, with disabled employees what they can do to make sure they can develop and use their abilities |

To make every effort when employee becomes disabled to make sure they stay in employment |
| 4. |
To take action to ensure that all employees develop the appropriate level of disability awareness needed to make your commitments work |

Each year, to review the five commitments and what has been achieved, to plan ways to improve on them and let employee and Jobcentre Plus know about progress and future plans |
How will I recognise the Symbol and where is it used?
The Disability Symbol (as shown above) is a circular symbol, with two ticks in the Centre. Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service place this symbol on all of their recruitment advertisements, application form and other relevant publications.
What does it mean if it is on a job advertisement?
It means that if you have a disability the Service will guarantee to interview you if you meet the essential criteria for that job. You must ensure that you state on the monitoring form that you have a disability.
