How to Dial 999 ONLY Dial 999 in an EMERGENCY

Bullet icon You don't need money or a phonecard; just lift the receiver and dial
Bullet icon Don't worry, the call is free !!
Bullet icon When you dial 999, the first person you speak to is the telephone company operator.

Give him/her your phone number or the number you are dialling from and ask for the Fire Service.
Bullet icon After a dialling tone, you will hear...
Bullet icon "Fire Service" - You are now speaking to our main Fire Control centre. We will ask for the following information:

1. The number or name of the house or flat
2. The name of the street or road it is in
3. Nearby streets or landmarks to aid directions
4. The District
5. The Town
6. What sort of incident it is - fire, flood, crash....
7. If it is a fire, is it inside or outside the building


Remember to speak clearly & don't panic

The call is then processed using the latest technology. We locate the address, identify the nearest available fire engines and dispatch them to the incident in less than a minute.
