We responded by rapidly mobilizing specially trained crews to the area to support existing personnel already deployed. Twelve fire engines, four off road vehicles and two specialist rescue boats were part of the resources deployed. Fifty firefighters and officers were involved, of which twenty five have specific water rescue training.

Flooding in the Bridgnorth area

Due to heavy rain in the Bridgnorth area a number of properties and roads have been affected by localised flooding.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service resources have been deployed into the Bridgnorth area – these currently include both SFRS boats as well as a number of SRT (Swift Water Rescue) trained personnel, along with water first responders.

Rescues have included a 90 year old male from his car, as well as 2 females and a dog from other vehicles.

Further heavy rain is forecast for this afternoon so resources will remain in the area for the rest of the day.

Brave Emma wins fire award

A quick thinking Telford schoolgirl has received a bravery award from senior fire officers for her actions in helping to evacuate her home in a house fire - and potentially saving lives.

Emma Whitehouse (8) remembered the fire safety awareness training she received from Shropshire firefighters during lessons at Windmill Primary School, Brookside, in November last year.

So when a blaze did break out in the kitchen of her home in Teal Close, Madeley, in February this year, she knew exactly what to do, said senior fire officer Phil Clarke.
