At 01:52 on Sunday, 22 January, 2023, SFRS Fire Control received a call reporting a fire classified as Property Fire in Newport.

2 fire appliances were mobilised from Newport and Wellington. An Operations officer was in attendance.

Report of smoke issuing from top of church which proved to be a false alarm. Believed to be steam from central heating boiler.
