At 00:43 on Wednesday, 8 February, 2023, SFRS Fire Control received a call reporting a fire classified as Property Fire in Newport.

2 fire appliances were mobilised from Newport and Wellington. An Operations officer was in attendance.

Reports of smoke and flames in the area of St Nicholas Church. This incident was a false alarm. No action required by Fire Service.
