At 23:55 on Friday, 23 January, 2026, SFRS Fire Control received a call reporting a fire classified as Fire In Open in Newport.

1 fire appliance was mobilised from Newport.

Crews used the following equipment to tackle the fire:

• Hosereel jet

Campfire which had been started in park by member of the public. Crews extinguished using a hose reel jet and gave advise regarding fire within public and council owned spaces.
