All children experience cuts and bruises as part of growing up, however children can be seriously injured and killed in accidents which can often be prevented. This year The National Child Safety Week runs from 23rd - 29th June 2008 and its message is “make a change, make a difference’.

The Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT) report that every week over 2,000 children and young people are admitted to hospital because of injury and that tragically 5 children die.

The Telford & Wrekin Children and Young Peoples Accident Prevention group, which includes representatives from Telford & Wrekin Primary Care Trust, Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust, Telford & Wrekin Council, West Mercia Police and Shropshire Fire and Rescue will be hosting an exhibition at Telford Town Centre on Monday 23rd June, between 9am and 6pm. Information and advice will be available on the simple changes that you can make so that children and young people can enjoy safer, healthier, more active lives.

Trading Standards will be available to provide free ‘pushchair MOT’s’ and there will be an opportunity to test your knowledge of child safety in a fun and exciting ‘Quizdom’ challenge hosted by Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service. Don’t miss this great opportunity to find out what changes you can make, to make a difference to the children and young people in your life.
