Action packed open day at Telford Central Fire Station

Firefighters will demonstrate their skills at an action packed open day at Telford Central Fire Station tomorrow (Saturday).

Families galore are expected at the Stafford Park station from 11am to 4pm to watch eye catching demonstrations including a chip pan bursting into flames and a series of rescue re-enactments including watching how people are cut out of a car after a road collision.

Members of the public can also see the tests that would be firefighters have to pass before joining Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service and get career information.

Children can experience how water is squirted from a high powered hose and visit the “smoke tent” which shows them how to keep low and escape from a smoke filled fire.

Important safety messages which everyone should know about will also be given out by firefighters including the importance of having a smoke alarm and knowing what to do if fire breaks out in your property.

Specialist equipment and rescue tenders will also be on site for the public to see the variety of work that firefighters do.
