Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service is reminding the public to take extra caution with electricals following two serious fires over the weekend.

Crews were first called to a fire in a property in Ditherington, Shrewsbury at around 1pm on Saturday 29th November. A fire investigation was carried out and found the blaze was caused by an incompatible charger connected to a segway.

This World Drowning Prevention Day, agencies across West Mercia are uniting, alongside the families of those affected by drowning to promote water safety and prevent further tragedies.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service are pleased to announce the appointment of Sam Burton as the Deputy Chief Fire Officer (DCFO). 

Sam is an experienced officer having worked in West Midlands Fire and Rescue Service and Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service on secondment before joining SFRS as an Assistant Chief Fire Officer  in June 2024.

Chief Fire Officer Simon Hardiman said: "I am appalled that a number of our stations have been broken into over the past few weeks and as a result lifesaving equipment was stolen and damage to property occurred.”

Firefighter Emily Jane Harding is preparing for an epic challenge this summer. 

To mark a milestone birthday, Emily will be pulling on her hiking boots to ramble along the 630-mile Southwest Coastal path.

This momentous challenge is set to begin on the 30 June in Minehead, Somerset and finish at South Haven Point in Dorset on around about the 7 September.
