A novel fire safety campaign will be launched by Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service in August as it links up with the county’s mobile library.

Their fire prevention team will hop aboard the library van in August as it travels through scores of rural villages to deliver not just library books but also vital fire safety messages to the public.

It’s all part of the annual fire safety campaign to reduce injuries from accidental fires that traditionally increase during the summer. more

The horrors of a gas explosion, how a car rescue is made and a cave rescue team in action are among the highlights of an open day at Telford Fire Station on Saturday, August 8.

Shropshire firefighters joined colleagues from around the world to commemorate the 30,000th sounding of the Last Post at Belgium’s Menin Gate in honour of the missing war dead in WW1.

Firefighters at Wellington and Shrewsbury fire stations stood to attention as two county buglers played the Last Post at 7pm – the same time as firefighters have sounded the tribute every day since 1928.

This year’s Cultural Diversity Day event is being held in The Square, Shrewsbury on the 25 July 2013.  The event will commence at 12 Noon through to 4:30 pm. 

There are loads of different things taking place to celebrate diversity, with information stalls, music and dance among others.  Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service will be attending with the Community Outreach Vehicle and appliance.

Private landlords will have to fit working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in their properties following a change in the law due to be introduced in October.

The new regulations will require landlords to install smoke alarms on every floor of their property and test them at the start of every tenancy. They will also need to install carbon monoxide alarms in any habitable rooms where a solid fuel heating system is installed.

High powered motorcycles used by the Staffordshire and Shropshire “Blood Bike” charity have found a new home at fire stations in Shrewsbury and Wellington.
