Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service is highlighting the need to take extra care with electricals as part of the National Fire Chief Council’s Electrical Fire Safety Week starting Monday 15 November.

The misuse of electricals/appliances and faulty appliances or leads caused a shocking 57.5 per cent of the accidental dwelling fires Shropshire crews attended between April 2020 and March 2021.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service is highlighting the importance of smoke alarms following a house fire in Sutton Hill, Telford.

The Service was called at around 2pm on Sunday 31 October to Southgate where a fire had started in a bedroom of the property.

The cause of the large Barn fire in Longdon Upon Tern was found to be accidental.

Six crews attended the fire, yesterday (Thursday 28 October), which involved three barns containing; straw, potatoes and machinery.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service will be visiting student accommodations this week as part of Student Fire Safety Week.

The campaign begins today (Monday October 25) and is hosted by the National Fire Chief’s Council.

This week our Fire Prevention Officers will be visiting halls of residents to review escape routes and locations of the rooms to make sure we can keep students as safe as possible.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service is urging motorists to park with emergencies in mind following difficulties getting to a fire in Shrewsbury yesterday (Tuesday 19 October).

The Service was called to reports of a fire on Albert Street at around 12.40pm and the crews found it challenging to get the appliance close enough to the fire.
