Sparx was originally commissioned in 2005 by West Midlands Arson Task Force. This exciting partnership resulted in a hugely successful play that was presented in theatres throughout the West Midlands.

Designed to raise awareness in young people of the dangers of malicious fire-setting and the importance of fire safety, Sparx has been adapted for a new tour of secondary schools in Dudley, Shropshire,Telford and Wrekin, Staffordshire, Walsall and Warwickshire this autumn.

The venue for a large scale training exercise by Shropshire firefighters involving a simulated chemical spillage has been moved from Oswestry to Ruyton X1 Towns.

The routine training event was set to go ahead at the Cheese factory at Maesbury Road Industrial Estate in Oswestry this Thursday evening (October 8).

But due to work commitments at the factory, the venue has been changed to Pentons storage yard at Ruyton X1 Towns.

A smoke alarm saved the lives of a Shropshire family asleep in their beds when an arsonist struck at their home in a random fire attack.

Mum Diane Carey (51), woken by the alarm, was hit by smoke as she opened her bedroom door.

"It was 4am and I could see orange flames glowing and I screamed fire, fire. I opened the back door and fire was dripping down the front door and a pool of flames were on the hall carpet," said the mother of three.
