The Safer Telford and Wrekin Partnership is once again driving forward its Celebrate Safely Campaign during the fortnight that includes Halloween and Bonfire Night.

To help promote the importance of celebrating safely, Cinderella Pantomime stars such as Mark Two and Jamie Sheen (Ugly sisters) are getting in on the action by helping the Safer Telford & Wrekin Partnership launch this years competition. The Safer Roads Partnership in West Mercia are today reminding all road users to take extra care on the roads as the clocks change this weekend.

As nights get darker it is increasingly more difficult for motorists to see other road users. Pedestrians are being encouraged to think about their presence on the roads and wear high visibility clothing and reflective material and to always use pedestrian crossings where possible. A chef, company director, mine geologist and a supermarket baker are among the latest “on call” firefighter recruits to pass out from basic training with Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service.

A young Shropshire mum was today reunited with the fire control operator whose calm voice over the phone helped save her family’s life when they were trapped in the bedroom of their blazing home.

Police in Oswestry have appealed for witnesses after an industrial-sized wheelie bin was set alight in an arson attack.

The bin was in a caged area in the rear courtyard of a block of flats in Castlefields and was some distance from the building itself.

Shropshire fundraisers who collected more than £10,000 to fund a county charity mission to send much needed fire engines to Romania have been praised for their efforts by Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Hundreds of people from across the county held car washes, cake sales, dress down days and auctions while sports clubs held bucket collections to raise the cash which will send four fire engines and a team of 14 volunteers to Romania next week.
