A Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service firefighter was reunited with a Poodle last night after a Boxing Day rescue.

Known as ‘Boris’, the bouncy dog was suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation when firefighter Paul Scott of Minsterley Fire Station first encountered him after a tumble dryer caught fire in the kitchen where he was being kept.

Whirlpool is recalling certain models of Hotpoint and Indesit washing machines made between 2014 and 2018. 

The machines are being recalled owing to a fault with the door lock, which poses a fire risk. Owners of washing machines from Indesit and Hotpoint purchased since 2014 are urged to contact Whirlpool immediately to check if their washing machine is one of the affected models.

Firefighters from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to a house fire in Dawley today just after 2pm (Tuesday, 17 December) where two dogs were rescued unharmed. 

The call was raised by a neighbour who heard the smoke alarm and called 999. 

Upon arrival, crews found that there had been a small fire, the cause stated as “unattended cooking.”

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) is inviting the public to an evening of carolling with emergency service partners from 7pm on Wednesday, 18 December at St. Chad’s Church in Shrewsbury.
