Shropshire fire crews have smashed their fundraising target for the year by collecting £17,000 in a series of charity events.

They had aimed to raised £9,600 for the Fire Fighters’ Charity over the past 12 months but raised the bar to get an extra £7,400.

Schoolchildren were bowled over in the county fire safety quiz run by Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service.

A total of 48 youngsters from 12 county schools won a meal and bowling sessions courtesy of the management at the Ten Pin bowling alley in Telford.

In teams of four, the eleven and twelve-year-olds had won competitions at their individual schools after quick-fire questions on all aspects of safety.

Off duty fire crews hosed, soaped and shined hundreds of cars at eight county fire stations over the past few weeks receiving donations for their cleaning service.

A ten-year-old autistic boy’s challenge to visit every fire station in the UK comes to Shropshire on April 1.

Over four days Andrew Impey will visit all of the county’s 23 fire stations meeting firefighters and being given a VIP tour.

Remind friends and family about the importance of smoke alarms in the home – that is the fire safety message from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service this Easter.

Members of the fire prevention team have launched their annual Friends and Family campaign to encourage the use of smoke alarms in county homes.

Everyone can play their part in tackling fire crime this Arson Awareness Week, says Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service and the Arson Prevention Forum.

More car washes are being held around Shropshire this weekend after a car cleaning spree by firefighters raised hundreds of pounds for charity.

Pet lovers are being urged to take part in a charity walk in Shropshire on Sunday to raise funds to buy the first animal oxygen mask for a county fire station.

Smokey Paws, a not for profit organisation, is campaigning to ensure every fire appliance in the UK carries a pet oxygen mask to revive an animal suffering from smoke inhalation after a building fire.
