At 13:50 on Tuesday, 21 January, 2025, SFRS Fire Control received a call reporting a fire classified as Fire In Open in Newport.

1 fire appliance was mobilised from Newport.

Crews used the following equipment to tackle the fire:

• Hosereel jet
• Rakes, shovels, mathooks
• Thermal imaging camera

Incident involves one bonfire consisting of commercial waste which was out of control. Crews used one hose reel jet and drag hooks to extinguish. A thermal imaging camera was also used to check for any remaining hot spots.
