Shropshire firefighters have issued an invitation to members of the public to join them at the fire service’s first ever Christmas Ball next month (Dec).

“We have never held a Christmas Ball before and so we decided it would be great to share the first one with the people we serve,” said one of the event’s organisers, Emily Hodson, a technical support officer based at Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service’s Shrewsbury headquarters.

A fire service campaign aimed at promoting fire safety and other “safe and well” messages received a big boost this week when it was told it could display its campaign posters free of charge on high-profile advertising “information pillars” in Shrewsbury.

Following talks between Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service and the company that owns the sites, PIP Advertising, the company agreed to waive the thousands of pounds advertising on its pillars would usually cost.

Hundreds of visitors attended an action packed open day at Shrewsbury Fire Station which raised more than £600 for the Fire Fighters charity.

A fun packed open day is forecast at Shrewsbury Fire Station on Saturday, August 18 with a host of eye opening activities for all the family.

Practical demonstrations of firefighter skills and equipment will show how they rescue people in emergencies alongside advice for the public to prevent house fires.

Special fire appliances and rescue equipment will be at the open day at the St Michael Street station during the open day which runs from 10am until 4pm.
