At 19:43 on Thursday, 31 August, 2017, SFRS Fire Control received a call reporting a fire classified as Kitchen Fire in Market Drayton.

3 fire appliances were mobilised from Hodnet, Market Drayton and Prees. Operations and Fire Investigation officers were in attendance.

Crews used the following equipment to tackle the fire:

  • Breathing Apparatus (BA)
  • Covering jet
  • Hosereel jet
  • Positive Pressure Ventilation
  • Thermal imaging camera

Fire in kitchen of domestic property, 6 breathing apparatus, 2 hose reel jets, 1 covering jet, thermal image camera and positive pressure ventilation fan used. 3 dogs and 2 gerbils rescued fit and well

Smoke alarms cost as little as £5 and are available at most DIY stores. It is recommended that smoke alarms should be fitted on the ceiling one per floor and they should be 30cm away from walls or light fittings (Usually top and bottom of stairs). Smoke alarms should be tested weekly by pressing the button to briefly activate the alarm. Change the battery once a year (unless it's a ten year alarm) and gently vacuum the alarm twice a year to remove dust from the sensors.
