Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) has been delivering education in schools as part of a program of events for many years.
Schools education program
This programme is delivered by both operational firefighters across the county and our prevention team.
Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service is committed to reducing fires and raising fire safety awareness to children and young people. The Service will continue to work in partnership with educational and local authority organisations to support young people in staying safe.
The schools program includes:
Year 3 (age 7/8) KS2 Safety Squad- Interactive PowerPoint Presentation and activities
Year 6 (age 10/11) KS2 Crucial Crew events
Our schools program is co-ordinated by our Prevention Officer – Children and Young People, so if you have any enquiries relating to this, please contact the Prevention team by either calling 01743 260200 or emailing enquiries@shropshirefire.gov.uk.
Alternative Provisions/ SEND Settings
The fire safety education provided to SEND schools and alternative provisions in the county are delivered by the Prevention Officer – Children and young people. The workshops are varied dependent on ability of the group, and the delivery is decided by prior communication with teachers using their knowledge of the students’ understanding levels. We now have a toolbox of activities and resources to be used in a SEND workshop style.
Home Educated
We have explored and delivered several sessions to home educated children by offering specific dates for fire safety education within fire stations. Please check out our events page and social media for upcoming home education events.
