Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service is committed to reducing fires and raising fire safety awareness to children and young people. The Service willcontinue to work in partnership with educational and local authority organisations to support young people in staying safe.
Schools Fire Safety Programme
This programme is delivered by both operational firefighters across the county and our prevention team.
The schools program includes:
Year 3 (age 7/8) KS2 Safety Squad- Interactive PowerPoint Presentation and activities
For year 3 delivery, schools should receive notification of this delivery in September, to enable them to arrange a suitable date and time for delivery to your class.
Year 6 (age 10/11) KS2 Crucial Crew events
Crucial crew involves a number of schools attending the event in their local area, where they are split into groups, and visit different scenarios led by different agencies who are delivering life skills education.
The day is split into these sessions and the young people go from one agency scenario to another throughout the day. At the end of the day they will have been to each scenario.
For Shropshire Fire and Rescue service, our session utilises our fire safety tent to spot the hazards that could be present within the home.-
Groups are to consider what could cause a fire and how to prevent them, the importance of smoke alarms and escape plans, and complete an activity about the consequences of deliberate fires.
Our attendance at Crucial crew events is co-ordinated by the organisers in the local area, who invite schools to attend.
Early Years and People Who Help Us
These sessions are not part of our formal educational programme.
A PowerPoint resource is available on request for teachers to use with students in preparation for their Year 3 fire safety talk.

SEND Workshops
SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) workshops for Years 7 and 8 are delivered in specialist secondary schools and are offered between September and March each year. These hands-on sessions use a carousel of activities delivered by Prevention staff and volunteers.

Home Education Workshops
Home education workshops for children aged 7–11years old are offered four times a year between September and April at various Fire stations acrossShropshire.
These workshops include a short PowerPoint presentation on fire safety, alongside hands-on learning opportunities.
Please note that station tours are not always available during these workshops.

Fire Setting Intervention Programme (FSI)
FSI is a fire safety education programme aimed at children and young people who have displayed or carried out fire setting behaviours. Available for any person under the age of 17 years, the aim is to educate children and young people in the dangers and consequences of fire setting behaviour.
