Fire Control
Shropshire Fire and Rescue Services Fire Control team are based at our Headquarters in Shrewsbury. They are central to every emergency response.
Fire Control personnel, also known as Fire Control Operators or Firefighters (control), play a crucial role in dealing with emergencies, from the moment a 999 call is received until the incident is closed. They are responsible for gathering essential information, making calm and informed decisions, and ensuring that fire crews are mobilised quickly and effectively when every second matters.
The information gathered and shared by Fire Control can be critical to saving lives, enabling responding firefighters to prepare the most appropriate course of action before arriving at an incident.
Fire Control personnel also provide essential safety advice to callers, including life-saving fire survival guidance where required, while maintaining continuous communication with fire crews. Using advanced technology and supported by comprehensive training, they manage resources, support operational crews, and monitor incidents as they develop. This includes sharing detailed information and liaising with other emergency services and partner agencies to ensure a coordinated response.
The role demands diligence, composure and strong teamwork, supported by integrity, resilience and excellent communication skills.
Fire Control is a highly skilled profession that goes far beyond answering calls. It represents a strong commitment to public service, with teams working around the clock to protect lives, property and communities.
This work is critical to ensuring that every incident is managed safely and effectively, achieving the best possible outcome for the public.
