Be a firefighter in Bishops Castle – that is the message for would be recruits from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service.

A recruitment evening will be held from 7pm to 8.30pm on Thursday (July 25th) when anyone interested can walk into Bishops Castle fire station in Church Lane and talk to men and women firefighters.

The station is staffed by on-call firefighters who respond from work or home within five minutes and go to a variety of operational incidents including fires, traffic collisions and animal rescues.

“People can call in and have a look at what we do on a retained duty fire station,” said Crew Manager Tony Barnes.

“It gives us a chance to explain what we do. Being a firefighter enables people to give something back to the community.”

Applicants must be over 18 and have a good level of fitness. Full training is provided over 20 weeks consisting of evening and weekends.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service is recruiting at all of its retained duty fire stations. For more information call Brigade HQ on 01743 260 200 for an application pack.
