Fire safety for Shrewsbury Carers

Community Fire Safety Officer Delyth Humphreys talks to Shrewsbury carers about fire safety in the home

Fire safety in the home was the subject under discussion at a presentation given by Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service to carers in Shrewsbury.

Delyth Humphreys from the Brigade’s Community Fire Safety department, gave a 40 minute talk to members of the Radbrook Carers’ Group.

Carers learned about the main causes of fire, where to fit smoke alarms and how to maintain them, and what to do in the event of a fire. All homes should have an escape plan and carry out a fire drill, she said.

“Any local community group can request this talk. Please contact us,” said Delyth, Vulnerable Person’s Officer, based at the Shrewsbury fire HQ.

There are a number of groups for carers to join throughout the county organised by the Carers Support Service at Shropshire Rural Community Council,” said Angela Evans, Support & Development Officer.

Two groups meet in Shrewsbury and the next is on August 30 at the Monkmoor Hotel at 7pm. For more details call the Carers Support Line on 01743 341 995.

“If anyone has concerns or would like advice on fire safety in their home, call 01743 260 200 and ask for Community Fire Safety,” added Delyth.
