Toys or Tears - Christmas fire safety campaign

Toys or tears - that is the question from firefighters this Christmas

Christmas shoppers at Telford town centre are being urged to take advantage of a free Home Safety Check which includes the supply and installation of free smoke alarm to all homes that have not got working smoke alarms.

Firefighters will be in the shopping centre over the next few days giving out fire safety advice and reminding people about the need to have a working smoke alarm.

"Statistics show that that there is an increased risk of fire at Christmas, however by just following a few simple safety tips can make all the difference", said community fire safety Team leader Rabinder Dhami.

"If people are interested in having a free smoke alarm fitted and more information on safety tips then visit our stand outside Primark."

A crew from Telford fire station is also offering an X-box 360 with two games and memory card to 11 to 17-year-olds in a multi choice quiz aimed at raising their awareness about fire safety. Children aged under 11 can win gift vouchers with a Spot the Danger competition and adults can win a restaurant meal for two.

The number of fires in Shropshire homes has reduced for the sixth year running due to successful fire prevention campaigns by firefighters.

They will be in the Telford town centre from Thursday 14th December until Sunday.
