The Lord Lieutenant of Shropshire has praised Shropshire firefighters – including those from fire stations in Shrewsbury and north Shropshire - for “all that you do” for the people of the county.

Two Shropshire police officers who pulled a semi-conscious motorist to safety seconds before his car was engulfed in flames after a road crash have been praised for their bravery.

Shropshire firefighters carried out a training session yesterday - in Romania.

They were familiarising Romanian firefighters in how to use equipment on board two UK fire engines transported to their country in a 1,800 mile aid trip destined to save lives in Romania's rural villages.

Volunteers from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service left Germany yesterday (Tuesday, June 4th) after being welcomed by the Deputy Mayor of Siegburg on their way to deliver fire trucks to Romania as part of a week long charity aid trip.

Nine volunteers from Shropshire were hosted by Chief Fire Officer Tomas Glatz and his family and colleagues from Siegburg Fire Station.

The fire station will be open to the public between 10am and 2pm on Saturday 22nd June.

Various attractions will be taking place throughout the day including:

  • Road Traffic Collision (RTC) rescue simulation
  • Line safety demonstration
  • Chip pan fire demonstration
  • Smoke tent

Visitors will also have the opportunity to see up close more

A call was received by our fire control room at 12:22pm to an incident involving a cow with its head trapped in a hole in a tree.

An appliance from Shrewsbury was mobilised, with the rescue tender and another supporting appliance from Wellington also mobilised.

The rescue tender is now carrying recently acquired specialist large animal rescue equipment which the firefighters from Wellington have all been trained on.

Volunteers from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service set off early today (Monday, June 3rd) on a 1,800 mile aid trip to transport more much needed fire engines to Romania.

Two fire engines and a Land Rover with 500 firefighting uniforms on board left fire stations in Shrewsbury and Telford bound for Targu Mures in Romania at 3.30am today (Monday June 3).

They will be the 13th UK fire appliances to be delivered to needy rural areas in Romania and Bulgaria over the past few years more
