On Friday 15th July, people  gathered to celebrate the life of long-serving member of our fire family, Paul Pryce, who sadly died in late June. The Service would like to honour his memory and pay tribute to a man who committed his life to helping others.

On Thursday 14 July at 3:53pm we received a call from Stanwardine, Baschurch reporting a fire in the open. On arrival it was clear that a large field fire involving approximately 60 acres of straw and stubble had taken hold.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service is pleased to report a reduction in fires in the county for the financial year of 2021 to 2022.

The Service has assessed the incidents it attended throughout the year and found a significant decrease in a number of areas.

Last year, fires attended by the Service reduced by 11 per cent compared to 2020/2021 – a decrease of 123 incidents.

Accidental dwelling fires also saw a reduction of approximately 13 per cent with a decrease of 27 more

Two dogs passed away following a serious house fire in Brakenfield, Telford yesterday (Thursday 30 June).

The alarm was raised at around 5.40pm by a neighbour who had seen smoke coming from the property. Appliances from Telford and Wellington attended and firefighters used breathing apparatus and hose reel jets to tackle the fire.

Despite the best efforts of the crews two dogs, a Collie and a Jack Russell, passed away as a result of the fire.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service’s manager at Whitchurch, Simon Griffiths, has been announced as a recipient of the British Empire Medal (BEM) on the Queen’s birthday Honours List for 2022. The medal is awarded for services to Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service.

He has been recognised for his services to the people of his hometown Whitchurch and Shropshire as a result of his career as an on-call firefighter spanning over 44 years.

A White Paper ‘Reforming our Fire and Rescue Services’ was presented in Parliament yesterday (Wednesday 18 May) setting out the Government’s plans to reform the Fire Service under the themes of people, professionalism and governance.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service has been engaging with the Muslim community and teaching fire safety through a creative design competition for local young people. 

Our Prevention Team visited mosques in Wellington and Craven Arms where they launched the poster competition and asked the children to create fire safety posters to be in with a chance of winning a prize.

The children designed some amazing artwork and these were used to create cards to wish them Happy Ramadan. more

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service is supporting the National Fire Chief Council’s Be Water Aware campaign which runs this week until Sunday 1 May.

The campaign is warning people of the risk of accidentally drowning when in and around water. In 2020 there were 254 deaths nationally and nearly 50 percent of people who accidentally drowned had no intention of entering the water.
