Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service is pleased to announce that the former SFRS Chief Fire Officer Rod Hammerton has received a King’s Fire Service Medal for Distinguished Service.

Mr Hammerton has been recognised on the King’s Birthday Honours List following his 30 year service to the community. He retired from his position as CFO in January this year.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service is teaming up Community Resource to launch a new volunteer programme.

The scheme has been developed to help strengthen the Service’s community safety activities while targeting the most vulnerable and hard to reach people within the county.

We have been consulting with Community Resource, a registered charity, and have created three volunteer areas:

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) and Harper Adams University have reached an agreement that will see the Service’s 4x4 driver training take place on the University’s facility. This will provide SFRS staff with a safe environment to maintain their essential driving skills.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service is one of 7 services in the UK to commit to the National Direct Entry Scheme (DES) which launches today (3 April)

The first cohort of direct entrants will work as a pilot to evidence the effectiveness of this first national accredited fire sector programme. Although DES is not new to the sector, this is the first centrally coordinated assured programme to bring direct entrants in with a view to develop into Station Manager and Area Manager level. more
