Six people were injured in a seven vehicle pile up caused by a drunken lorry driver in south Shropshire but it was all a vivid re-enaction as part of an emergency services training exercise organised by Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Trapped inside crushed cars strewn across a road were "victims" made up to look like real casualties with spine, neck, pelvis injuries, broken bones, head and internal injuries to test the reactions of 999 crews.

 

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service has praised a decision to install sprinklers in all new Shropshire secondary schools.

The move was today welcomed by the Chief Fire Officer and Anthony Derricutt, Building and Planning manager for the county fire service.

Shropshire firefighters "rescued" four canoeists in a water training exercise which mirrored real life rescues carried out on the fast flowing River Severn at Bridgnorth.

Firefighters and pharmacists have joined forces in an innovative campaign to help the elderly in Shropshire.

The dual initiative aims to improve fire safety in pensioners' homes and organise a free medicine safety check at the same time.

A new initiative to point elderly people in the right direction to seek a helping hand has been launched by Shropshire community leaders – with the aid of Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service.

A Shrewsbury fire control operator kept a trapped householder calm as she waited for fire crews to arrive at her smoke logged Shropshire home after fire broke out.

Oswestry businesswoman Eirwen Day (44) dialled 999 after seeing smoke pouring up the staircase of her home just after 2pm today (Thursday). She couldn't get downstairs and retreated into a bedroom of the semi detached house in Station Road, Whittington, where she called for help.

Firefighters were praised for their dedicated service to Shropshire at a special awards ceremony held at Shrewsbury Fire HQ.

Lord Lieutenant Algernon Heber-Percy presented Long Service and Good Conduct Medals to ten firefighters from across the county.
