Make a hoax fire call and lose the use of your mobile – that is the message from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service which is taking tough action to combat the crime.

There are more than 400 malicious 999 calls made to fire control at Shrewsbury fire HQ each year sending firefighters and fire appliances on rogue missions when they may be needed at a real emergency.

A safer motorcycling campaign has successfully reduced fatalities on Shropshire roads from ten to zero, say organisers.

Bridgnorth Community Safety Partnership which includes fire, council, police and the Safer Roads Partnership launched the education drive earlier this year to combat last year's "shocking" statistics of five motoryclists dead and 16 seriously injured on the worst roads in and around Bridgnorth.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service has received the official blessing of both the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Archbishop of Westminster in celebration of its diamond jubilee year.

Telford Fire Station has received a brand new fire appliance to deal with emergency call outs to fires and road crashes.

The new truck has updated features on board to assist fire crews including a computer monitor and an automatic pump control which means the driver can now operate the machine's pre-set pumps freeing up an extra firefighter for any emergency.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service recently held one of their most successful Festival of Carols at St Mary Magdalene Church, Bridgnorth, with around 400 people attending.

Shropshire women got "a taste" of life as a firefighter during awareness training sessions held by Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service which is urging more women to join up.

Two sessions were recently held at Telford fire station to encourage more women and people from minority ethnic groups to consider a career as a wholetime firefighter or to become a retained firefighter at one of the county's 22 rural fire stations.

Fire safety in Shropshire's rural business regions has been given a major boost with the introduction of specialist community fire safety officers.

Seven new Rural Business Support Officers have been trained to go into commercial premises in the county's countryside areas and give support and advice on fire safety.

This follows a successful trial by operational firefighters in Telford, Wellington and Shrewsbury where commercial fires have been reduced.
