Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service has issued guidance to care home managers that may be facing unique challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Prevention & Protection Manager Jon Temple said: “The COVID-19 pandemic means care homes are having to work in new ways, be that with reduced staff levels or changes to the way buildings are being used and there is a lot to think about.“We want to reassure care homes that the Protection (Business Fire Safety) team is here. Managers and staff are facing unprecedented challenges and we would encourage them to contact us should they wish to discuss any queries or concerns surrounding fire safety.”
Changes to how a premises is used, staffed and managed could have significant impact on fire safety and detailed guidance is available on our website.
As the way care homes are managed is changing, fire risk should be at the forefront of manger’s minds to help lessen the risk of fire.
Letters with enclosed advice sheets have been sent to care home managers within Shropshire. The advice sheets offer support and guidance for the following areas:
- Fire Risk Assessment
- Evacuation Plans
- Fire Doors
- Changes to staffing levels
- Temporary Accommodation
- Testing and Maintenance of Fire Safety Systems
