Request detail

I am requesting incident-level records of grassland, woodland, crop, and other
vegetation/wildland fires — i.e. fires you classify under the “grassland, woodland
and crop fires” category used in your returns to the Home Office Incident Recording
System / MHCLG Fire and Rescue Data Platform — for the most recent 5 full financial
years for which data is available, with the following fields per incident where held:

1. Date and time of call/attendance.
2. Location, at the finest real geographic precision you hold — ideally an OS grid reference or postcode;
failing that, the incident ground/street-level location description already
recorded in your Incident Recording System entry.
3. Estimated area affected (hectares, or your recorded size band), where held.
4. Motive/cause classification (accidental / deliberate / undetermined).
5. Whether the incident was recorded as a “major incident”.

Why at this resolution: vegetation-fire counts by motive are already published at
Fire-and-Rescue-Authority-area level. I am requesting only the finer-than-FRA-area
location detail that the aggregate tables do not include, for small-area (LSOA-scale
or finer) fire-risk research. This is not a repeat of data already public.

A spreadsheet (CSV or XLSX) is ideal. If any part would exceed the cost limit, please
advise which fields or years are feasible within it rather than refusing the whole
request. I need no personal data — only the incident attributes above.

Response detail

Thank you for your request for information concerning vegetation/wildland fire incidents over the five most recent complete financial years.

We have considered your request under the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 (EIR), as the information requested relates to the environment.
Please find attached the information held by Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service for the five complete financial years from 2021/22 to 2025/26.
The dataset provides the requested incident information where held. Estimated areas are provided using the recorded size band, with hectares shown where held. Blank fields indicate that no value was recorded.
Location information – Regulation 13 EIR
Full grid references/exact locations have been withheld under Regulation 13 of the Environmental Information Regulations 2004. When combined with other information reasonably available, precise location data could enable individuals associated with particular properties or incidents to be identified and therefore constitutes third-party personal data.
We have considered whether disclosure would be lawful, fair and transparent under the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 and concluded that it would not. Reduced four-digit eastings and northings have therefore been provided to enable geographical analysis whilst reducing the risk of identifying individuals.
Major-incident status

The Service does not record major incident status as a structured field within the incident recording dataset. Consequently, no information is available for this element of your request.
