Shropshire & Wrekin Fire Authority appoints new Chair and Vice Chair

Shropshire & Wrekin Fire Authority has appointed Councillor Richard Overton as its new Chair, alongside Councillor Susan Coleman as Vice Chair.

The appointments were confirmed at the Authority’s Annual Meeting on Wednesday 24th June and take effect immediately.

The Chair leads the Fire Authority, which is responsible for setting the strategic direction, budget and governance of Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service. The Vice Chair supports this role and helps ensure effective oversight and decision-making.

Councillor Overton said:
“It is a privilege to be appointed Chair of the Fire Authority. I look forward to working with fellow members and officers to support the Service in delivering its vital work to keep our communities safe.”

Councillor Coleman added:
“I am pleased to take on the role of Vice Chair and am committed to supporting the Authority and the Service as we continue to meet the needs of our communities and strive to improve the service we provide.”

The Fire Authority and the Service would like express thanks to the previous Chair Councillor David Minnery for his dedication and leadership over his 21 years on the Authority.

Chief Fire officer Simon Hardiman said: “I am pleased to welcome Richard Overton into the new role of Chair and look forward to working closer with him and vice Chair Susan Coleman in the months to come.”
